Engine out of truck, need help

Alright guys, My rear main seal is leaking on my 95 f250 7.3. I have the motor out of the truck and it is either coming from the rear main or the plate behind it. anyway I need to ask a few questions.

1.0 What is the pyramidal-shaped cover behind rear main seal (I'd bet money this is where its leaking from... it looks like something to do with the turbo oiler...
1.1 What will happen if I pull this cover off to replace the gasket
1.2 is there a gasket for this part or is it just a silicone seal?

2.0 I have read some things about a rear main seal speciality tool... is this necessary?
2.1 how does it work and where can I get one if it is required?
2.2 I called auto parts stores and they have 2 different rear main seals, one for $18 and one for ~$45 which do I need?

3.0 is there an oil pan gasket or just a silicone seal?

bumping it up for ya...... I got a spare motor sitting at the house, and have never really looked at the rear of it.....
