Well, according to the mechanic I talked with, my batteries were kaput. No kidding, I told you that when I brought it in.
However, I have noticed that they weren't as strong lately as they have been, and apparently the dealer had to charge them on Saturday. They neglected to tell me this.
So I went and traded my battery in, and it fired right up. This seems very weird to me, because it was explained to me that the 7.3 is pretty sensitive to amp loss in batteries. If there is not enough juice left over after starting up to run some of the electrical system, it effectively shuts the engine down. This is backwards from everything I've been taught and experienced with diesels - basically if you got the engine running, you didn't need the electrical system.
I'm still not sure if I believe that was 100% of the problem, but it's all I have to go on right now. So if your batteries start going, switch them out sooner rather than later, because once they get to the point where they won't take a charge, you can't run you truck.
