The coolant temp sensor is located just next to the thermostat housing and heater outlet on the water pump. It's a 2 wire sensor and very common. When replacing check for a green colored corrosion, common with sensors. It's called fletching. It's caused by micro arcing of the sensor circuits and builds up over time. If there is fletching clean corrosion ands if you have some available add dielectric of some sort of electrical grease to the connector to prevent this.

joeydover-Just a little FYI, -40 degrees is a default reading for that sensor when unplugged. I would check for a wiring issue if not resolved after sensor replacement.

does the gauge & computer read off the same sensor? they have 2 seperate ones on a gas. cause the gauge is working correctly but the computer is reading wrong.

As far as I know it only has one. I think the PCM used the EOT (engine oil temp) as the primary input for temperature related strategies. If it isn't effecting performance I wouldn't worry about it. You probably pulled a pid that doesn't exist in that model of something.

performance is fine. i was just worried about cold temp enrichment like a gasser does. thanks for the info.
