Loud Popping From Intake

I have a 97 7.3 with a stock turbo and an after market intake. when i started my truck today i noticed a faint popping comming from under my hood. not thinking much of it i took the truck into town and after about 3 minutes i the popping became louder and louder until it sounded like a pack of black cat fire works where goin off under the hood. i imediatly pulled over to invastigate and pin pointed that the sound was coming from the intake turbo area. I called a buddy of mine who is a diesel addict and he told me it sounded to him like my turbo was goin out or i had an injector that was stuck wide open. at idle the sound is consistant with the engine and same goes when you rev it up the higher the rpm the faster the sound although it never changes tone. im just wondering if anyone knows what this could be. any help would be apreciated this truck is my dd and i cant go long without it on the road.

I hate to brake the bad news to you but it sounds like you have an exhaust valve sticking. When the exhaust valve sticks closed it forces the combustion out where ever it can. In most cases the intake causing the noise your hearing. If your planning on keeping the truck your going to need a valve job.

do you have any idea on prices for the valves?

I would have to hear it but that sounds like it could be a turbo problem. Is it possible to post a video of the sound?

i could get a video tommoro if i start it now i'll wake the neibors six blocks away its that loud but i will get a video tommoro
