2003 6.0l no throttle

While stopped at a light today my truck suddnly seemed like it lost all power and got real quiet. I had black smoke coming out of the tail pipe but not a lot and no throttle respone. I was able to creep ahead a little ways and get the truck in park. While in park or neutral I step on the gas and after a couple seconds get throttle. But in any drive gear I get nothing and the truck wants to die. Being a new diesel owner I need some direction. Thanks everybody
