2005 Excursion electrical gremlin

Ok so here’s my situation, I have a 2005 Excursion with the 6.0, SCT live wire, 5" MBRP turbo back, zoodad, 105000 miles. I put two new batteries in it three weeks ago because I had to jump it one day, as I had the radio going for about two hours. I was thinking the cells were going bad and they were four years old.

Now I get in the truck the other night and I notice the ABS light is on…..then the AIRBAG light goes on….then the A/C display goes blank…….I notice the headlights are dim……now all the gauges go to zero (as if the truck is not running)…..I put the hazards on…….now the headlights go out, the dash lights go out, and the hazards stop working……tap the brakes and the headlights, dash lights, and hazards work again….very dim… then they go out again…..all the while the truck is running fine… get it home shut it down…try to restart and it sounds like a dead battery.

Two days latter, truck is dead… I put a battery charger on it for two hours… still no start… I have a friend come over with his diesel and jump my X…..it tries but won’t crank over…..put a volt meter on it & I get 12.4 volts… take the cables off and the voltage starts to drop, all the way down to 9 volts.. I pull the meter off. I disconnect the plug and the hot wire on the alternator… put the cables back on it, now we get 13.5 volts. I figure the alternator is bad. I leave the alternator disconnected and charge the truck with my battery charger for three more hours. The truck starts (barely) I move the truck to a better spot to work on the alternator, shut it down and just for kicks try to start it again and nothing.

Any ideas, please post them, pm me, or heck just pray for me. Thanks in advance,

Replace Alternator with a good DC Power Unit

I went through the same problem 2x and it was my alternator. All gremlins went away for good now that I just purchased and installed the following DC Power Alternator (230A):

https://www.dcpowerinc.com/alternato...0xp-8k-3g.html

The nice thing about it is it produces 2/3 of the full output at idle and can be upgraded at anytime to the 270A unit. Windows roll down quicker and my ABS doesn't come on intermittently now.
