17* HPOP Hard Starting

Today i installed a new hpop in my early 99 and now its having some trouble starting. Its taking a about 7-10 seconds to start but when its running better than it ever has before. While the fuel bowl was off i also shimmed the fuel pressure regulator with a BB. i dont think that would have anything to do with the excessive cranking. What do you think?

This is your problem. Remove the BB, your AB injectors will be happy.

Not only that, but how many miles have you put on her since the install?

Last time I had my HPOP off it took about 10 miles and 3 or 4 restarts to get her to run normal again.

Best of luck budd!

When did the FPR shim start causing starting problems? I personally have shimmed the FPR over 10 trucks and they all run and start just fine. Or is it just an AB injector thing?

I'm not sure what it is. My truck did the exact same thing. When I checked the fuel pressure, it was over 75psi. I did it to my friends truck.. same thing.

I did notice one thing. It started fine when cold, because I let the glow plugs cycle. The pump had already kicked off. When hot, jump in and hit the key.. looooooong start.
