99 questions

I've spent several hours reading through the e99 vs l99 threads and still have no real answers. Up until today i thought i had a Late 99, but it is looking more and more like its a e99.

It has door badges, a single glow plug relay, 2" intake runners, square leaf spring u bolts, 00-03 intake, cruise light, radiator has fittings for trans cooler but its not hooked up, and a build date of 12/98, also valve cover says 250hp.

Can pull the valve cover and tell by injector codes?

I was looking to pick up a used ts chip but i need to know ealry or late

It's an early 99. Ts chips are programmed by pcm code. Yours will be xle-4 if it's an auto trans. Pull the pcm to make sure. Pcm is located under the fall on driver side. It's held in by a 10mm bolt that's accessed from the engine bay.

You have a mix of both by your description, but more than likely you have an e99 and the l99 were add-ons by PO's. Like SuperTech said, check you PCM code. That should be a dead giveaway unless someone swapped it out with a newer one. Which is known to be common to get better shifting characteristics from a pmt1 or pmt2.

BTW, if you have an xle4, I have a TS chip that's for an xle4 code with custom tunes that I may sell.

Thanks, i spoke with the PO today he bought the truck new in October of 99, In spring of 2010 the engine was replaced by Ford(along with the transmission), he said when the replaced the engine they updated the turbo, intake, and inner cooler. I thought it was odd that he never mentioned this when i bought the truck but being in his 70's it could of slipped his mind??? anyways he is mailing me the complete service records.

My next question is did ford replace the e99 engine with a l99-03 engine and use the factory wire harness(glow plug relays), intake runers and spider. Or is it still a true e99?

stock to stock it runs way stronger than my 97

It's probably updated all the way through. Look at the intakes going into the heads...If they are the three inch ones, you have a later model setup. you probably have powdered metal connecting rods instead of the forged ones....

late 99 turbo has 5 bolts holding the compressor housing on.
e99 has 4 bolts on the housing.

if you have the e99 spider i would think you would have the e99 turbo.
maybe some else will know if a e99 spider fits a l99 turbo.

my friend wasted a ton of money getting l99 turbo setup when he could have just gotten a d66. if i only i would have known he was looking to upgrade.

no, a early model will not fit a later model turbo. That's why the afe blade runner abd the cfm+ intake manifolds don't fit e99 trucks. The outlet of the turbo is larger on the later model trucks

I just checked it has 4 bolts, so it is the E99 turbo.
I thought i read somewhere that the e-99's were equipped with the wicked wheel from the factory? The wheel i put in mine was i believe a 6 blade wheel and the factory was a 7 blade?

Do the e99's still have a split shot injector or are the single shot's like an obs? my 99 seems much quieter than my 96 or 97
