is there a way to tell the difrence?

I know how to tell the difrence between an early 99 and the late 99 if I can look at the truck. but if im looking at online adds is there a way to tell the difrence by the vin number?

Well

Not sure what the vin cutoff is but, almost 99% of the early ones had a Powerstroke V8 badge behind the headlight on the fenders, they then moved it to the door like the later ones. Under the hood the air box on the early '99's sucked air from the fender and the later ones from the grill.

no problems. when ever I find something over there the truck is sold before I have a chance to get over there to check it out.

allot of online adds dont give engine photos or close ups of the badges. plus allot of used cars have had minor body dammage before they go to the car lots and with replacing doors, fenders etc allot of the badges arent accurate to the vehicle.

Don't bank on the location of the badge. If the badge is on the fender it is an early99. If the badge is on the door it just might be an early99. Quite a few guys I have met online with an early99 have the badge on the door.

Just my $.02 on that subject

I have found a few "vin decoders" but none of them give any info on the date. Try Google and see what you come up with.

well i guess I could probly spot the badge by the head light and know if it where an early99 but if the badge is on the door its still a 50/50 chance.
