Deleting the EBPV actuator in the pedestal

I知 planning to put my new D-66 turbo on Monday, I want to do everything I can to that area while I知 in there again. I plan to remove the EBPV flapper and plug the pivot holes with pipe plugs. I need to fix the stripped bolt hole in the up-pipe collector, and I壇 like to remove the EBPV actuator so it don稚 leak in the future. Anyone know of a good way to do this? How is the best way to mod the actuator so it will never leak? Anything else I should do while I知 at it?

I just took the plug out of the back of the pedistal, pulled the spring/actuator rod thing out of the inside (one whole peice), then I tapped the the hole in the front (cant remember if it was 1/8" NPT or 1/4" NPT) and then put a regulat pipe plug in it,
oiled the oring on the back plug, and stuck it back in and put the retaining ring back on....

I also did the Carquest gaskets to fix the leaky up-pipes (worked GREAT!!) while I was in there rebuilding the turbo...

all my leaks are fixed! no more oil and no more exhaust! LOL

Man, its times like this I wish I didn’t have free dial up internet, it would take me 2 or 3 hours to download that vid and flash player. Thanks very much for the help guys, I’m fixing to go out and start the job, I’ll take lots of pics for future reference.

Thanks blk99 for the directions on the delete, what is the difference in the Carquest gaskets?

Hey Maintain, what were you talking about the other day about the Y collector? I think it is the drivers side up-pipe connecting bolt on the inside side that’s stripped.

Pull the snap ring off the back cover of the pedestal. Unscrew the flat threaded part where the EBPV attaches to the rod. Pull the rod out the pedestal. Tap the hole for whatever size you want it to be, I used 1/4" NPT. Than put a plug in it. Put the back cover back on with some type of sealant, I prefer Aviation Permatex and install snap ring.

To get the EBPV out of the outlet takes some perennisation. I drilled out the rivets in the center of the butterfly. Then cut the rod in half and pounded out the pieces. Then again used a 1/4" NPT tap to tap the top and bottom holes. Put in the two plugs with anti seize and you are done. Be careful on the outlet, it is cast iron.

My rule is if it gets hot I use high temp anti seize on it. If it does not get hot I use aviation permatex on it.

Thanks for the advice, 1/4 NPT fits just right. I have had a drip on the driveway ever since I built the engine, the whole bottom of the truck stays soaked with oil and I couldn't find it. When I got down to the pedestal this morning I noticed it was clean around the rod hole and a clean trail down the back of the pedestal so I'm hoping this was my pesky leak, it now has a 1/4" plug in the rod hole.

the CarQuest gaskets are for the uppipes.... they are ALOT thicker and will seal worn pipes and make it possible to tighten down farther when they start to shrink/disinigrate....
it is exhaust donut gasket #17250 (IIRC) for a 350 chevy gasser....

and dont forget about the turbo ped orings.... 2 on top, 2 on the bottom.... that plus the EBPV delete cured all my upper oil leaks....
