How to identify #8 Injector?

Just wondering if all 99-03 7.3 have that funny long lead #8 injector, or was that something on just some of the engines made? If its only in some engines, how do you know if you've got one or not (other than pulling the valve cover, please). I've got a 3/98 build date. Thanks!

As far as I know OBS,Superduty 7.3's have the LL injectors and the only way I know of to tell its the Long Lead is to pull the Valve covers and on the top of the #8 injectors it says (LL) on it.

3/98 build date? You'll have all AB injectors. You should not have a LL injector in number 8 unless your truck has had AD's put in. And even then you'll need to pull the driver side valve cover off. If you (or previous owner) had the injectors replaced/rebuilt, don't put too much trust in what the code is on the solenoid.

Ok, thanks. So the LL injector was a late 99 change done at the factory...I assume to help with some of the dead head problem. I was just wondering if I invest into a flow through fuel system if I was going to be looking at a possible #8 injector replacement as well since some have reported being able to hear the noisy LL injector after they've done the flow through fuel systems and quieted down the rest of the motor.

What are you wanting from your motor (performance)?

Plus the Long Leads have a blue connector compared to the white connector on the rest of the injectors.

Well, what I'm really after is trying to get the most out of the existing motor that I have rather than more horsepower necessarily.

I think I'd like the smoother, more efficient effects that others talk about with things like flow through heads, waste gate upgrades, 203 stats, straight pipes, higher fuel pressure, more airflow, etc.

Its not that I don't want more power as a bi-product but I'm really more trying to concentrate on things that will make the engine run better in and of itself.

And....I'm always trying to save a buck when and where I can and do stuff myself.
