After FPR mod have you noticed hard starting?

Initial startup after mod was normal but now after driving 8 or so miles to town, turn iginition off, wait 20 minutes...the restart cranking time seems to take twice as long. It has done this the last two trips, air temp 50 to 60*.

It starts normal on a cold start in morning but not after warm up? Same fuel, nothing different but the BB.

Never heard of the FPR shim causing hard start, had mine done for about 6 months now with no problems. I seem to remember folks talking about the IPR o-rings causing a hard start when hot condition.

It does not make sense that it could make it start different. The fuel pump is electric and the turns on when the key is turned on.

Mine was on for 4-5-6 years, heck if I can't remember. No problems ever. It use to run at 72psi and after all the years it ran 68psi. Never had a problem.

OK...I did not check the new fuel pressure, just done the BB mod & run. Can the increased pressure have ill effects to the old fuel system in such a manner?

I don't know if the excessive cranking is due to too much fuel or not enough. No smoke at all in exhaust & fuel pump "sounds" as normal with key in the on position.

Could there be too much pressure existing after engine shut down to hinder warm start up?

With higher fuel pressure it will not effect the fuel system, how ever too much pressure will push out the rubber o-ring in the fuel bowl.lol. dont ask me how I know.

I was thinking of doing the bb thing on my 99 (10/98) stroker. Is that all you do . . . take the FPR apart and put the bb in the end of the spring and then put it back together and startup?

I haven't noticed any leaks and the bowl gasket is normal. Suppose I'll take that BB out and see if it will correct.

By the way, I never felt any performance gain with the FPR mod as other folks say they did.

Do a search for the FPR mod, it will have pics and directions. Early 99s are different (have to remove two torx head bolts) to access spring.

I would have a 5/16" fuel line sleeve handy too as mine tore apart during dis-assembly.

FYI, the early99 is the same as 99-03 7.3. Nothing special on the superduty when it comes to the early birds. However it is different than the OBS, 94-97.
