front axle

I'm trying to change the ball joints and can't get the axle out. build date is 5/98. I watched the video from the tech files and it just isn't coming out. Everything has been super easy. had it all tore apart in 30 mins. Does the axle slide straight out of the knuckle like in the video? or am i missing something? I even used a 4lb hammer, but don't want to damage the u-joints. Can't afford to have this done. help please.

Once everything is apart, the axle just slides out. There are a few seals that may give you a bit of resistance. You should post some pics and we might spot the issue.
