Waste gate ?

Ive been reading all the topics and confusing the heck out of myself. Is the ebpv and the waste gate the samething or are they diffrent. when i changed my exhuast there was a butterfly where the dp hooks up i figured that was ebpv.

They are two different things. yes the butterfly valve is the ebpv (exhaust back pressure valve) and the wastegate allows excess exhaust through without having to spool the turbo. that is why the bosst will only reach a certain point. the wastegate will open at a certain pressure so that any excess exhaust past that point will not spool the turbo more and give more boost. hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. thats what i was thinking seems how i worked the wastegate lever and the butterfly didnt move. How is the ebpv operated. By a thermal spring, or is threre something else back there i cant see.

Its operated by oil pressure pushing on a piston inside the turbo pedestal with an actuating arm to move the valve open and closed

I just picked up my machine from Ford garage they replaced exhaust back pressure sensor Seemed to start better and didnt have that loping like it usually does will test it in morning when it is colder Im still getting code p1690 how important is this control valve sensor
