Info on putting in newer computer
I have heard of people putting computers out of newer truck in the early 99.
1 Why? 2 How? 3 Where to get parts and $$? |

1.) The newer tuning makes the transmission shift better. It also has more dyno testing time and tweaking done to it to make the truck idle better and make more power. One of the quarks is the XLE tuning is the idle, it does not always drop to the factory idle speed with a chip in it. It always seemed to me to idle high unless I had it in stock with my truck and others have commented on the same happening to them as well. In addition, when you set your cruise control a green light will illuminate in the instrument cluster on the right edge half way up. 2.) Take out your PCM and put in the new one. It is that easy. 3.) You can buy a PCM one from the for sale section of numerous fourms out there, and they will tell you the PCM code on it already. Or you get one from car-parts.com. Tony and Jody from DP tuner will send you a list of acceptable PCM's by ford part number. If you happen to find a PCM that is not a preferred PCM code, you can send it to Jody to re-flash the PCM with the preferred PCM code. I call a referred PCM code one that has the most testing and dyno time to make it run the best. This is where we get the term custom tunes from, those custom tunes have been dyno tested and tweaked to obtain the most gain and are not available in all PCM codes. I paid $100 delivered from car-parts.com. A stock tune flashed on your PCM from DP Tuner is $50 and a custom tune flashed on your PCM is $75. I hope that all made sense. Thanks for the info, I assume I’ll have to have my chip reburned, I need to call Tony Wildman and see if he can work with the Swamps injectors and Swamps programs and a new PCM. I tried email and PMing him but I can’t get through. Does it make enough difference to be worth the $$ and trouble? My tranny does shift very harshly right now, I keep thinking the driveline is going to snap. |

I just remembered, when I first got my engine back together with the new swamps stuff in it I had a problem with tit idling too high in the towing program. We later figured out that they had accidentally loaded the 99.5 towing program instead of the early 99 one. So there must be something in the newer programming that makes it idle high, wonder if that can be programmed out?
