E99 exhaust

I have an e99 and im not sure which direction to go with it. The only thing done to it right now is CAI, built trans and billet convertor, and the obvious gauges. The other thing i am planning on doing to it is an exhaust and some sort of chip like a TW or something. The question i have is, with these mods and a chip will i be better off just straight piping the stock exhaust or buying a 4" turbo back. Is spending the extra $$$ for the 4" worth the gains. I am down for either way, just dont want to kill the truck with too much exhaust. Thanks for all of the help.

I straight piped mine, I've been told that unless you're pushing 400+ hp, the only real advantage in the larger exhaust is the change in exhaust tone/note.

It also makes sense to me, as I have the welder in the garage, and in an hour or 2, I'm done.

I have used a chrome tip from the local parts store, that has a bit of packing like a 'charry bomb' style muffer built into it, if the straight pipe alone is too loud, the 'muffler' tip takes the edge off it, I have gotten no complaints from anyone, and with my yellow truck being a company truck, going to customers houses on service calls, it's a good result.

Ya no gains on the 4" the only reason I bought my 4" was I needed a muffler delete pipe and a cat delete pipe, and I didnt want it to look all chopped up. And I really like the sound with the E99 turbo. But if you wanna save a few bucks there is no problem straight piping your stock exhaust

I took my catalytic converter off my truck, gutted it (pry-bar and sledge hammer), put it back on with the stock ford clamps...So at inspection time, they are none the wiser...my E99 turbo sounds more prolific with the catalytic converter gutted...I left mine straight piped without the muffler for two days, then I just put my muffler back on because there was hardly any sound difference with or without the muffler on it?? (I thought that was odd, thought it would be much louder without it) plus around here it wont pass inspection without the muffler on it.....
