VSS out, third time

this is the third time in as many months I'm looking at replacing the vss on the rear pumpkin i've checked the wires, cleaned the sensor(s) can't find out why they're burning out... this one worked fine until I pulled the batteries when replaced the turbo, hooked the bats back up, no speedo and abs light on, and od light flashing... the first one that went out was a napa part, thought that was the problem so this one is from the for house... checked resistance on the wires, seem to be fine, I checked and re-checked the fuzes, nothing's out, the only thing I think it might be is my buddy drove it to the station the other day and he claimed the heater fan wouldn't turn off, when I went back over a little later it was off, but it has clicked at me a couple times from behind the radio, I'm thinking GEM is on it's way out, but would that throw-off my speedo?
