Oil Heater????

we took my dads E99 F350 to the mechanic to see what was wrtong with the block heater. turns out it wasnt even hooked to the block, intead it was plumbed in right where the oil filter hooks up and was designed to heat the oil. it came from the factory like this apparently. has anyone ever ran into another one of these? thanks for any help

Yep, thats how all the 7.3s are...

The oil filter attaches to the rear of the oil cooler, and the oil cooler has both coolant and oil that flow through it. So it is a great spot to have the heater.
