XLE4 to PMT1

Just in case anyone was wondering...theres been some questions...the change from a XLE4 (early 1999) to a PMT1 (2001) PCM is plug and play 100%. Just did it. The tuning is different in the PMT1. Not sure it's horse power different...but the truck definitely has a little more umph on the low end. The second gear pull seems a little longer and quicker. The third gear grab is much smoother and more powerful. Beyond that...havn't been able to play with. The reasoning for me change was simply because Tony at TotalDieselPerformance suggested it for better tuning of the PCM. He said the the PMT series PCMs open up the tuning and get better results than the XLEs. I figured it was worth the $75 on car-parts.com Hope to get the new tunes that are being reburned for PMT1 this week...:thumb:

i have run the pmt1 for 4 years now..truck will run better and the shifts are much better...the tuners have more time tuning these pcm's over the XLE and there is more room for them to play with..the DPC-422 family (where the pmt1 is found) can be found in all auto trans trucks from 99.5 to early 01...

any of these PCM's listed bellow can work in your E99

i do not think any of them are caly PCM's...in my post above i high lighted the codes you will be looking for on Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market in red..the PMT1 came in the early 01 trucks...just keep in mind..if you have an auto trans...you need a PCM for a auto...these PCM have more adjustability over the XLE..better tunes and better shifts in the end...

It is absolutely worth it by the way. The truck is more enjoyable to drive. Probably the second best $75 I've spent only second to DIY intake. lol. I actually believe i am getting more mpgs too. Just a statement not a fact yet. But I've gone through two tanks of diesel with it and I am getting 23 and 25 more miles per tank than I was with the other PCM. I was shocked I though it may go down...

Ok now i'm curious what PCM code came in the 02 trucks. I've heard alot about PMT-1 and PMT-2. But would i have either of these in my truck?

#17 ·
got one coming in that i got for 125. ive had some really weird shifting and power problems since i switched back to stock everything after i lifted my heads running too much boost. the transmission has some work done but everything else is stock and my 3rd gear like slams when it shifts and so does overdrive kindof. and it just feels sluggish as hell. but maybe i was just used to my stage 2 sticks and D66 turbo pinning me back into the seat. ill let yall know if it fixes any shifting problems over the 99 computer

#18 ·
oh and BTW a 2002 computer will not work at all in the earlier year models. the truck will not even start or do anything at all. i cant remember the 4 letter code for the 2002s but i tried 2 of them on my truck and it did nothing whatsoever

#20 ·
No I don't have it. It was actually 2 different friends I had with 2002 models that I tried using. I had issues with tuning the stock early99 computer to run right with my stage 2s and was just trying them to see what would happen. The truck wouldn't even start

#21 ·
dropped in a pmt1... worldddds of difference and fixed my shifting problems. actually spun the tires off the line with almost no brake boosting. never done that before with everything stock

#22 ·
Just swapped mine in this morning. I used a PMT2 because that's what was available. Biggest improvement is in shifting. I did find out that my XLE had a Banks Ottominder that was probably put in when the truck was new.
The swap was easy and straightforward....but it helps if you have a midget around to get the screw off from the firewall side:tard:

So is ANY pcm from late 99-01 a PMT1 or just the 1C3F-Z(B,C,D)? I have an early 99 and want tunes, so this seems like an upgrade before I order tunes.

#49 ·
There are a TON of PCM codes for 99.5-01 trucks. However, if you decide to put a chip in it down the line, the chip will have PMT1 programming anyway.

You will most likely find because they are the most common:
NVK2 or NVK4
MNM0 or MNM1
PMT2

If you are actively looking for a PMTx computer, you are wasting a lot of time. Any of the above listed ones will work.
