Normal boost around town or on the highway
if you're just taking it easy around town, or cruising unloaded on the highway, what are your boost numbers looking like?
Mine are just about always at the bottom of the gauge at 2-3 pounds. should it be sustaining higher when there's not really a load on it, or at 65mph flat highway cruising when it shows around 5 pounds? with mild acceleration the boost gets up to 5'ish pounds in town, and when passing cars on the highway it jumps up to 10 or so. When I hit the pedal hard the boost will jump up to the teens and low 20's. when i'm loaded heavy and punch the pedal the boost will hit mid twenties. does it seem normal, or should I take a look around at the boots and check for leaks? I haven't spend any time in other 7.3L trucks with boost gauges so I don't know what's normal. nothing seems wrong with my truck at all. when i put in the DP 80E the truck seems to really come alive, and the boost shows a little more. I guess i'm getting around 15-16 mpg average. Last edited by samiam; 08-30-2010 at 07:33 AM. |

Even on an extreme/race tune boost would only be ~5lbs just cruising around.

Boost numbers sound right to me, mine stay around 4 lbs with my foot out of the throttle no load, boost will obviously change loaded.

yea thats about normal i thought my gauge wasnt working. but in extreme stepped on it hard i can reach like 19 lbs. its weird because my cousin has a 5.9 cummins with smarty cranked up and when he steps on it it will reach like 35-40 lbs stock turbo.
