I have an early 99 that does something similar, engine winds up and shifts in O/d. Did this with the original tranny and with the ford reman I installed at about 150,000.

My E99 kind of releases and free revs before the shift to OD too, and rpm's fluctuate after it's in. Seems worse the more warmed up it is. Since yours did it before and after the reman install, kind of makes me wonder if its tuning/line pressure related. I'm sure it's common enough someone will chime in

i am guessing its part of the pcm programming. my old tranny would flare going into o/d occasionally. i just had it rebuilt with some beefed up internals, a shift kit and valve body work. it will still flare going into o/d..... i know the newer pcms are supposed to be a lot better for transmission control. a newer pcm is on my next to do list.

Weird....mine has had the flare going into overdrive/lock. Within the past 15,000-20,000 miles it has developed the "shake" at certain speeds, under certain loads as well. I bought it with 198k and now has 250k. The 1-2 shift is solid, the 2-3 shift kind of sucks and the 3-4 shift really sucks.

I figured the "shake" was the converter clutch.

yep! That is one thing I learned in trade school that has saved me time and money and that is if you are havein trans probs look at the motor first ie in this case the miss is more noticeable when in od with low rpms causeing the jerking and hesitation run the motor codes I'm willing to bet you get a p0261 - p0284 or a p0300 code
