Mfg date 11-98. Starting to wonder if the truck had a later model engine put in it after it was built between this and the major surging issue I have that everyone says it should not do on an early 99. Wonder if there is a tag or something on the engine itself I could refer to?

You can check the engine mfg date and the compressor wheel.

congrats on the truck and the extra $500 i would talk to one of the vendors on here. i know raul runs a package deal on the basics to get you started and the $500 should take care of that. imo, straight pipe it with no muff. that will save more money than doing a full kit with muffler and it will sound much better. a diy intake will save you also than buying a afe or s&b. i would also check the classifieds on here. you may be able to find a used dp or tw for cheap. make that $500 go far bud. good luck

I ran into a few things out of the gate on my 99 with 148000 on the clock as I began mods. My balljoints (uppers and lowers) were shot. That was expensive to fix. My water-pump was bad as well. Had to have a new torque converter put in. Point is, go over the truck well before decking it out.

The DYI intake should be high on your list. Easy to do, cheap and very effective.

The MBRP 4" turbo back shipped to the door was $300.00. Its quieter than the stock system with no muffler but it flows much better. Dont dog it alot and the egt/s wont hurt you w/o a gague.

Gagues should be next. I like my glow-shift set. They were affordable with a mounting pod off ebay. Some of the guys have had bad luck with them (as I have with much more expensive name brand items on other vehicals) but they have been flawless for me. Everything I needed was included for a great price.

With all that in place your set up for a good set of custom tunes. I love my DP tuner.........better than advertised.

Have funn!

To add to the question above, what is your PCM code?

I too have never herd of an early99 with foil except for a truck or two that had their IC pipes replaced for some odd reason.

I will have to get the exact numbers off from it tommorow, but when I checked all that before contacting DP for my tuning it showed to be for an early 99.
I will get the specifics tomorow and let you know......im curious now myself!

Mfg date should be on the driver door support sticker.
You can go to some places like diesel site or just look for the x wheel/wicked wheel and see what it's like. The late 7.3 compressor wheels were different.

No foil for me, but yep has a cat.

Well it has an new water pump, new alt, ball joint are all servicable other than the uppers. Runs great! Will need to do the fluids soon. Only thing i really noticed is a clunk in the left front just when hitting bumps. My mechanic buddy told me for the upper ball joints to take the nut off the bottom put a 90* zerk in and grease them and then put the nut back in. Cant leave the zerk in because of the axle rotation.

On your clunk, does it do it every bump or just occasionaly? Do you feel it in the seat like its under you or really just in the front like you said? Asking beacuse I have a similar issue but mine radiates thru the body on the drivers side driving me crazy. I pulled carpet last weekend and tightened the hell out of all the body and bed bolts to no avail. I will not do it every time maybe one out of 3 bumps....defenatley on the drivers side although the passanger can feel it to. Has done it since I bought it, before lift, balljoints, wheels, tires ect. My mechanic told me the same thing to grease my new balljoints and gave me the zerks. Need to get this clunk/banging taken care of though.

Dont know where to look now.
