I'm an idiot...what is this?
On the driver's side of the engine, there is a small rectangular box between the valve cover and the air inlet pipe. I was guessing it was some sort of PCV filter...but the part doesn't seem to exist. I just changed the glow plugs on a 230,000 mile '99 7.3L and (whatever it was) it was pretty gunked up. It looks like it has steel wool inside it. Any help? Again, I'm an idiot.

that is the pcv and has the steel wool. just clean it. break cleaner works also if you want to use that. then rince and dry b4 putting it back on. it would be good also to replace the rings on it.

A popular mod is to do the CCV mod and save the gunk from going in your turbo!
