Angry Apparently I have a catalytic converter!

So I crawled under the truck the other day to do an oil change and had a look at my exhaust system as I am building up to replacing it here in the near future. Found what I believe (99% sure) is a cat, something I had not expected considering its an early 99, thought they didn't come out till later.

Anyhow I definitely have a large, symetrical, football shaped can about 4 feet upstream of my muffler, its gotta go.

I wondered why I hit higher EGTs sooner than most on here with my limited mods.

So when did these engines start getting catties on em?

I seriously think they decide what truck gets them the same way they decide who to screen at the airports. not this one, no not this one, ok this one will do.... doesn't matter what year some trucks never had them, some did. Don't think they actually standardized on them until 03..

My 99 Cali had one once upon a time, it was long gone by the time I bought the truck.
