No Sir I do not have my own shop, nor do I work at one, but I do have one thing working to my advantage, common sense, which it seems your dealership does not have. Now, my favorite technician of all time, has got to be the Diesel Tech at University Ford in Durham, NC. I know him, I know his mother (haha), and I know a few of his friends. He has always gotten things fixed on the first try as far as I know. I am sure that there are much better techs. between here and there, but I can put you in contact with him, and let you explain to him, and get his opinion on the matter.

Another question. as you say it's a "navistar" The engine is not a light blue is it?

Anyway, Post the vin# here, (Do we have an OASIS forum??) and if we dont, post it here, and I can call him and get him to e-mail it to me.

Sorry about the time delay Crazy, but kinda been up to my butt in alligators. No, the engine isn't "blue" but your basic black, also VIN#1FDAE55F53HA62897..(so there it is for all the world to see...and to admire my lemon) By the way...what is "oasis"?. Too bad I didn't have this truck the other day, I just got back from a run just outside Durham (took my little Contour..1 pc/152 lbs, and although uncomfortable on a long run, 35MPG is better than 9)

Also..as a late note/question. Can't seem to find out just how much boost this things is "supposed" to put out. As for vac/boost guages, would a regular, off the shelf type suffice and where would I connect it to? Also, since this thing doesn't have a built in tach, and it seems there is a lot about keeping the revs within a certian range. Will just about any tach work? or do I need a special one just for diesels? And how would I hook it up? (I know how to connect one to a gas engine, but without a sparkplug and ignition system, not really a clue as to which wire gets connected to what..Thanks.
Gonna go get it back from Allegheny Ford now and take it on a test run...Maybe someone knows a secret mantra that will appease the Great and Mighty Diesel God and this thing will finally and actually be fixed this time!

forgot to add this you need to check your exhaust backpressure flapper in the outlet side of the turbo and make sure it isn't stuck.pull the doghouse out of the van and take the heatshield off the engine.you will see a rod that comes out of the turbo pedastal and hooks onto the flapper linkage(jesus clip).take the clip off and unhook the rod and see if you can turn the linkage if you cant then the flapper is stuck.you will need to free it up its hard to do on a truck without removing the turbo but on a van i think its possible.

just something to check and it won't cost you a dime just a little time and some wd-40 or pb blaster

Back from Allegheny Ford. Will actually pick up the truck in the morning. They DID find a chip in the ECM, said that was probably the problem but without the original chip they had to replace the entire PCM.(The only thing on the chip is "EEC Tuning Module") Needless to say I'm still skeptical. Tracy, the tech there "said" he took it up GreenTree hill and it had no problems. I'll know tomorrow. Gonna take to Altoona and have Dan load it up with about 4000lbs of scrap steel then climb up the grade...about 5 miles worth, and lay down a heavy foot to see if the problem comes back. Told them that if it does, I'd be back and one pissed camper...I think they got the idea. I still want to check out the turbo (ie inspect it) and I'll check that flapper as well. I'm hoping that the Great and Almighty Diesel God will have mercy on me this time..LOL. Will let ya'll know how it goes.

WHAT

THERE IS NO ORIGINAL CHIP INSERTED ON THE PCM!!

GRRRRR BURNS ME UP..

They did not have to replace the Flipping pcm because it was chipped.

I am betting that the chip has been the problem the entire time.

I would Go in there, and raise fire, brimstone and all hell. That's BS, again, there is no "Original Chip" I'd go so far as to tell them they'd better put the original PCM back in there. (Assuming the vehicle still acts in a similar fashion as before)

However, if the engine was changed before you bought it, in all likely-hood the PCM may have been replaced, and in all likely-hood, if a non-ford shop did the work, they may have plugged the chip back into the new pcm, which may not have been programmed for that pcm.

DID They Not Test Drive the fricken van after they disconnected the chip? I would be willing to bet lots, that they did not and are taking you for ANOTHER parts ride. ALSO, did they call you before they put the new PCM in?
"We found a chip in the pcm, we're going to replace it, is this ok with you?"
IF THEY DID NOT CALL YOU, for you to approve the replacement, then you, legally, do NOT HAVE TO PAY for the pcm, and you can tell them.

I would not accept the vehicle back until they explain this "Original Chip" BULL

The oasis should get back to me tomorrow. BTW oasis stands for On-Line Automotive Service Information System. You plug the vin# into ford's data base and it tells you everything that was ever done to the vehicle (that was done at a dealership)

God......
