E-350 6.0 Hiss and White Smoke

Hello all (newbie)...

I have a 2005 e-350 with a 6.0 Diesel that has had a lot off issues. EGR cooler and valve replaced 2 or 3 times, oil cooler twice, plus other things. I just had a EGR valve installed at the dealer, then a bulletproof EGR cooler installed with OEM oil cooler at another shop just a few weeks ago. It was still producing black smoke, so for the first time I, myself, thought I would check the EGR valve. When I took it off, there were NO o-rings. A battle ensued over how that could happen, with no resolution from the last shop to touch it. I replaced it with a new EGR valve, no more black smoke. That is a quick back story that may or may not be related to the current issue.

Now (and it has happened before) when the AC is on there will be a loud hiss and white steam appears from the engine area and sometimes through the interior vents (not form tailpipe), and a strong coolant odor everywhere. Now the engine light is on again. I tried to get it to do it while I was watching with the hood up, but of course it wouldn't do it then.

To all you who are familiar with that truck, does that sound like an obvious problem, or am I going to have to find yet another shop to diagnose? I would at least like to know what it "should be" before I try to have it repaired.

Thanks, and if you would like to no more about the mysterious missing o-rings, I would love to vent. I just thought I would keep my first post as brief as I could....

Dave
