2004 6.0 L pst E350 Extended. Batts show 12.3 v before key on . Key on... batt 8-6 v . No crank. Just starter relay chatter. Key off... Gage cluster needles spaz 3-5 sec. Key on wait 2 min voltage returns to 11.3 v turn key to start some times will crank some times relay chatter no start. I have 2 extra batts conected and charger running . Glow plug relay bad ? Short in harness? Problem is intermittant and driving me nuts . Dealer wants it back to check but its stuck in driveway !

I'd pull the fuse for the glow plugs and try it then, how old are the batteries?

The dealer replaced both batts 2 weeks ago. Tow truck from dealer showed up and hauled it to shop.

Shop said the alternator was toast. Had never seen it go like that in a truck so new. WTF would cause that to load batts ... ????

Just a guess, but could be the rectifier diodes went bad, allowing the batteries to short to ground through
the alternator windings. Think of the diodes as one-way valves, that let electricity OUT of the alternator, into the battery. If shorted, the diodes would allow the battery to short through the alternator.

Again, just my guess. Ask the shop, and let us know!
