E-450 Diesel Utility Van

My husband just bought a 2005 E-450 with the 6 liter. He flew to Chicago and drove it home to Albany, NY area. He hadn't seen any blue smoke on the drive home, but last night and this morning, upon starting down the road, the van is blowing blue smoke. It seems to continue for a little bit then stop smoking, but will again if he steps on the accelerator to shift down. The EGR system was apparently replaced recently before he bought it. Are we looking at another replacement or is there something else? We also have an '06 F-350 that's had 3 EGR replacements before it hit 100k, and was covered under warranty. Now it sits because the EGR and turbo have gone again and the high pressure fuel pump in the valley needs replacement. But, if anyone has any insight on the '05 van with blue smoke, please let me know!
