Sudden increase in fuel consumption

Hello every one. Recently purchased a 2003 e350 super van with 7.3Liter diesel engine.

Did about 4k since purchased and averaged about 17mpg, recently my fuel consumpotion went up to 13mpg average and today, starting was hard.

Also,Trying to figure out location of fuel filter and will appreciate any hint.

Thanks

fuel filter on these trucks isn't as bad as you'd think I remove intake box, unbolt the wiring connector, and unbolt the intake muffler, and push it out of the way, On these its a little easier to use a hammer and long screw driver to spin off the filter top, When you change the filter make sure you seat the o ring correctly, or it will leak like nobody's business.

In addition to my previous post, sometimes you cant push the intake muffler out of the way enough to get the filter out, in that case you need to remove the dog house, take the two 10mm nuts off that hold the turbos heat shied, and unbolt the muffler from its bracket, its 8mm IIRC
