Is a 6.0 worth the headache?

Hello everyone, I am currently looking for a work van for a part time business I run. I originally had been looking at 2005 E350 6.0 PSD's with around 100k miles, but after seeing so many complaints about them online I am not sure. More specifically, I wonder if this is an inherent problem with the engine or if it mainly effects guys who tow and "tune" their trucks. I have seen people write of "bullet-proofing" a 6.0, but I wonder how much this costs. And in regard to deleting the EGR, I don't know if I can do that because I live in CA and they now smog diesels.....In addition, are there any years of the 6.0 that are more reliable, and if I am only using the van locally and not towing with it am I likely to run into problems?

Thank you for any info you may have,
matt
