93 Ford E350 Deisel Noisy
I am the new owner of a 93 Ford E350 14' box van with a 7.3l diesel. The previous owner said it is rebuilt. It starts and runs good, there is some black smoke form the exhaust, but other than that it seems ok except it is louder than other deisels I see and here. It is an IDI non-turbo. While I am a pretty fair mechanic when comes to gas engines my knowledge of deisels is meager. I don't know if this engine is just noisy by nature of if I should be looking for a problem. Any advise will be appreciated.

I have a 94 van with the same set up. And mine also seems to be loud. I believe the reason is that being a van the seats are real close to the engine.

 FYI 7.3 IDI diesel's make a lot of noise, I still have one for a plow truck and my neighbors just love me around 3am when I go out to plow
