99 E350 7.3 Idles rough, boggs down when accelerating

Last week the motor would idle rough. Wait a few minutes and it would smooth out. I left a job and the motor idled rough and ran rough, couldn't get up to speed. Lose of power and lots of white smoke. Couldn't get over twenty mph. Mile down the road it smooth out again. Checked the wiring harnesses under the valve covers (ok). No visible leaks. Check engine light came on briefly , no codes to be found. The white smoke issue one week later seems to be gone. Disconnected the ops and the motor & it smooth itself out, not perfectly. Grasping for straws need help!! ( I'm a novice when it comes to diesels).

ops?

I would check the ICP. It is on the front of the driver side head. Unplug that and see if the idle improves.

It is the injector control pressure sensor. It is what the computer uses to tell injector pressure so it can adjust the oil flow to the injectors to increase or decrease pressure.

The problems with my motor were solved simply by replacing the fuel filter.
The semi clogged filter caused the rough idle, white smoke etc.
Hope this helps!
