If you have a crack or blown head gasket on the 7.3L your going to get excessive white smoke from the coolant being burnt as well.

i do agree with that but head gasket problems on a 7.3 are so few and far between its usualy not the concern

Just trying to clear up that whitesmoke arguement there scuffy.

It is also occurs when the engine is cold at initial start up.

i understand , i just agravated with having to explain everything everytime on white smoke /black smoke /blue smoke to people that dont really understand diesel engine and how they work, not tying to piss anybody off but you read enough posts and half the things people tell others and leads them in the wrong direction which in turn leads to a misdiagnosis and unecesary money spent rubs me the wrong way

Pay very close attention to Scuffy! This man KNOWS HIS SCHYT when it comes to diesels! I drove 400 miles to have him fix mine...he did it right the first time..and was dead on in finding the problem(s) the very instant he heard me start er up! (by the way.. I still think you way UNDERcharged me!)

THat is cool man I just was givin that info from my mechanic and that is what he told me. They said we learn something everyday. its all good here.
