The Ultimate SUV
I am considering the purchase of an SUV. Ford no longer makes the Excursion. BOOO! I looked at a new Explorer today. They are so much smaller than an Excursion. The one I looked at was listed at $52.500. A maxed out E350 XLT Fully loaded was $42.900. For another $5,000, I can add a 6.0 Power Stroke. At least that is what it cost to upgrade my 2001 when I ordered it. I have seen a few E350 4x4's. The owners said that they ordered them that way. How would I find where to order one like theirs? A regular dealer or would it be a special dealership. So I am guessing that IF I can order an E350 the way I want it, I could have the ultimate SUV from Ford for what GM wants for the Suburban or Yukon XLT. So; give me your opinion. What should I do?

i grew up with a 96 E150 chateau 7pass. dad wrecked it and got a 98 E350 15pass. loved those vans. both were gassers tho but awesome traveling vehicles. i really want on when i have my fam. might be able to get a used one with a 7.3 in it.
the 4x4 are not from ford from what ive seen. but i have seen them with the 4x4 on em in the northern states. and saw one in ak back in 2002. what were you needing it for. cause that will be the desiding factor. google searches for what we had ![]()

quigley makes 4x4 conversions that can be had through a good dealer.

I would buy a 1-2 year old sprinter for that money, and you really would have the ultimate suv.
but hey that's just me, as it is for the money I had I bought a 10 year old e350 I love it though, but I can't get mpg's in the 20's like a sprinter. |

Ours is a Quigley with a 6.0, and we've been really happy with the Quigley portion of it.
Note that when you convert a van to 4x4, you will wind up with an off-road ready front end, but the rear end that comes with the van might need some work to bring it up to snuff. Ours has a semi-floating rear axle, which we've already broken once. The folks at Quigley are super nice. We ordered our van through Sportsmobile, and have enjoyed the combination of 4x4 and motorhome tremendously. |

The last four configurations are 6.0Ls on nearly every tab, and are 2 of 3 of the options for the DRW.... But a lifted excursion is basically the same thing.... |
