I wanted to do this to my 97 250. I got a dually rear frame clip with 6 wheels from a 96 350 and the frame is about 3" narrower than my frame now, I could cut the spring perches and move each one 1"5/8 out then use a 1/2" spacer to push the wheels out away from the springs then I ran into the problem of the springs, they are 2"1/4 wide and about 4" shorter eyelet to eyelet, the bolt pattern for the shackles are identical but you could only use the factory shackle location for the front or rear in order to keep the rear running true and straight, then to compound the situation further a new driveshaft would have to be made because the length would be shorter or longer depending on which shakle location you chose. With the right resources and or money this would be very doable. I bought the whole swap 6 wheels w/good used tires , and rear clip for $200 front dually hubs were also included

Be cautious about simply adding the spacers on the rear axle in order to put two tires per side. This adds an imbalance to the carrier and is only meant as a cosmetic option. Therefore, if you intend to do some hauling with your new rig, you'll want to do an axle swap. The nice thing about a swap is that the frames are identical so it is a simple bolt-in operation. If you can find someone to swap axles with you, the most expensive part will be the fenders.

Ext. Cab Short bed dually = badass to me
There was a guy that used to post over on SDD or TDG that did that exact thing. In fact he used to brag about officially having the only ext cab short bed dually in the world

Anyway, it's been done before and to make things easier for you... see about contacting guys who have installed Dana 80's (Dually rear end) in their trucks for pulling purposes.

Any updates?

I'm considering this also.

Hate to give up a good truck in a swap.

Mine is '01 F350 SRW 4x4, 6.8L V10, Crew Cab LWB, 3.73 ratio LS.

I would prefer swapping in the DRW axle, assuming there is a benefit of better brakes.

Planning to go with a flatbed. Wouldn't mind carrying an extra spare for rear only swap.
