Free tune or not???

A buddy of mine bought a wrecked 02 PSD w the 7.3 and he called tonight to tell me it had a superchips programmer under the seat and I could borrow it if I wanted to.He said it wasnt vin locked because he has used it on his sons 01.
I am wanting a DP or TW tuner,but after paying for the truck and buying a new(to us) camper I'm short on funds.The SC programmer has a tow settin which is what I'm wanting.I have been reading up on the chips and tuners and if I read it right the SC programmers and chips are harder on the trans than a multi position tuner like a DP or Tony Wildman unit.What everybodys thoughts on this??? A free tune sounds good but not at the expense of a 3-4K $$$ trans.

The truck is a 01 CC 2wd dually w 145K,3:73's and the 4r100 trans.Completely stock except straight exhaust.

In my opinion, you need gauges, DIY intake, and straight pipe no matter what tune you run... so you're only left with the tuner... I say wait for the DP tuner, no risk to trans...
