that was my origional thought before asking around here. kbb fair trade in is 17000 something. but i am scared of the mileage. thats why i sold my 01 7.3 to get something with less than 80k and something that gets better gas mileage. then my love for duallys kicked in

In pictures 3 & 4 what is that, that is sticking out behind the tires. Does this truck have a air ride on it?

It's not the engine I would worry about. The WHOLE truck has 165k on it. Unless you can get a full check on all componets ( I.E. ball joints, steering linkage, shocks, hubs, T-case, Tranny, A/C componets, etc.......). You can end up spend all lot of money bringing the truck back up to par.

i believe what is sticking out was some sort of in bed camper tiedowns. definately has to do with towing and hauling. id also want to get the truck checked out before i bought it. has anyone done this, like just made an appointment at a garage to get it checked out?

Stock, my 06 gets 19-20 at 55, 18-19 at 65, 16 at 75, and it's downhill from there. Drafting a big box semi at 70 will get you 1-2mpg.

There's a chance you may have to replace rear wheel bearings. Do it yourself and save some bucks, the kit with bearing installers is around $350, and the rear axles are real easy to get out. Getting to the pinion bearing is a bit more work.

If you're thinking about bigger wheels/tires, remember that you need six of them, so it runs into serious money real quick. I just re-shod mine with stock size Goodrich AT's, the bill came to $1320 at a local tire discounters. Ouch!

john, are you going by the computer or are you manually figuring your mileage? b/c mine reads a max of 14 around town when i'm easy on the skinny pedal. when i get on it, it's around the 11mpg range.

highway is a different story...
