Angry 4x4 Won't engage

Recently buried my 08 F250 during a hunting trip to New York State. Put truck into 4High before I pulled off the highway, drove about 50 yards and parked. Went hunting and came back and attempted to back out of the spot where I was parked. Rear wheels started spending with the front wheel not turning at all, had to have a buddy of mine come pull me out. Lights come on both in 4H and 4L but the front end is just not engaging and you can hear it click like it is engaging. Took the truck to the Ford dealer and they said that both of my hubs are locked up $2400 repair. Have talked to several other dealerships, friends and 4 wheel drive shops and they seem to think that my truck has been mis-diagnosed. Going to do some more troubleshooting on my own but wanted to hear some thoughts of other 250 owners and your thought on getting replacement parts from places like Auto Zone and Advanced Auto.

what happens when u manually lock your front hubs ?

if you do need hubs ebay is the place u can get out for a few hundred bucks

but to loose both hubs at the same time and call them " locked" is suspect IMHO

have you tried the following:

put truck in 4 low and turn if off for few min
put truck in 4 hi turn it off for few
same as above with neutral and 2wd.

I have serious doubts both your hubs locked out...

if the lights on the dash are on that means the transfer case is locked
at least it has told the PCM that the selector inside the transfer case has moved into the proper position

the hubs only get a short vacuum pulse to lock and unlock and there is no means of verification

chances are you drive shaft is putting power to the axle but the hubs did not engage

it could be a few issues all are easy to trace
