Hey all. I was driving the truck last night and I noticed something. When I was comming to a stop, I have a grinding noise comming from somewhere. I can kiinda feel it in my brake pedal, but its not the abs. When I went to back it in the driveway, the truck came ot a halt, and it was like trying to back up with the brakes on. I went forward in it and it drove fine. I took it to the gas station. shut it off, went inside, came back out and I went to back out of the space, and it drove fine, till I went to stop moving, and when I applied the brakes, it was like i had slammed them on, but only in the rear it seems. I drove it forward, and it goes fine again. Got it home, and started backing up, same thing, it started fine, till I hit the brakes, and then its hard to drive again. Whats up? I am thingking stuck or loose caliper bolts. I havent torn into it, as its pouring outside, plus it was real late. I have to work today, but maybe later tonight I can tear the back tires off, and see what happening. Any advice or what to look for would be great!
Thanks! OH, I have driven the truck for almost a month and this is the first time its done this. |

Sounds like you have a caliper locking up. Most likely your grinding noise could be the brake pads wore out. So you are grinding metal on metal. You will most likely need a new caliper, brake pads, and new rotor. Another thing that could be happening could be the slide pins that the caliper are on could be rusting or corroding. If this is happening the caliper is not being allowed to slide freely. Which would aslo cause the problem you are having. If this is the case you will need. Brake caliper hardware kit, new pads and new rotor. I suggest you check all for brakes, I have found that the passenger rear is the one that usually has the most problems. |

Yeah I have had problems before with the brakes, especially that passenger rear. Every time I do the brakes it seems the passenger rear is in need of new slide pins. No matter if I lubricate them with grease, the brake lube. So far when I do my rear brakes it always ends up replacing the slide pins on that particular brake. Good luck with it.
