A different 4x4 question

My buddies 7.3 excursion is stuck in 4 wheel drive. The switch will not disengage it...... Any ideas?

I agree with the rocking in neutral idea.

If that doesn't work.. I'd say he's got the same problem that I had. Most likely the coder motor that shifts the transfer case is burned up/stuck.

If it doesn't come out of 4wd soon.. I suggest taking it somewhere to have it fixed. I didn't and it cost me... broken coder motor, broken gear in transfer case, front hubs stuck. Cost me almost $1000
