1998 f150 4x4 problems

hey guys. i posted this in the gasser section a little while ago with no luck...im trying to diagnose whats going on with my brothers truck. its a 98 f-150 with the 5.4L. the fourwheel drive selecter is the stick on the floor. when you try to put it in four wheel...she doesnt work. i traced the vaccuum hoses from the front diff all the way up to the firewall...everything seems to be connected tight with no cracks. anything else you guys think i should check? thanks!
