Why am I shaking

Hey guys/girls. I have recently been noticing some outside wear on my right front tire, so I had my tires rotated for a road trip over the weekend. Got driving down the interstate and noticed my 01 Excursion 7.3 L was shaking a whole lot. I felt it in the steering wheel a little bit, but anything over 68 mph, the entire truck was shaking. Then I went about 75 to pass a vehicle, and the truck was shaking so bad I hit the brakes and pulled over. I checked the lug nuts, and they were all tight. I then checked the tire pressures and they were way high, which I expected since it was pretty hot. I did let some air out of them just to see if it helped, and it made the slightest difference. Anybody have any ideas. Do you think I should just get the tires balanced and see if anything changes? Thanks, I need this thing ready for the rest of the trip.

i bet you've got some front end wear, but could be out of balance tires.

What do you mean front end wear? Ball joints or something worse? I'm no mechanic, so don't feel like you will insult me. I'm trying to learn. Thanks a lot.

yep, ball joints. when was the last time it was aligned??

Could be bad ball joints, out of balance tires or a broken belt in a tire. I would have it looked at asap. Especially if its a broken belt, that will cause a blow out. Experienced that in a company truck last week.

my first thought wasnt what i read in the first post.




is there uneven wear on the tread besides the shoulders. i would think out of balance also.
