Yea if you put it back in 2wd going down the track or wait until your letting off at the end of the 1/4 its going to stay locked in 4wd until the pressure is off the drivetrain. I don't think there is really a mph limit on 4wd just use common sense and be safe about it.

2006, you should be fine, in the August 2009 Diesel Power, there is an article on Chaz Lightner's 99 SD CC drag truck with a Cummins in it.

"Thw unfortunate drivetrain that is forced to live behind the high-horse Cummins is largely stock, which is a testament to Ford's strength and durability. Special 4r100 TRANNS INTO A stock NP273 chain-driven t-case, which is used to transfer power to all four wheels."

Earlier in the same issue is a dyno day report where that truck laid down "over 600 hp, and that was with 40 pounds less boost thn he normally runs at the dragstrip"

You should be fine!

I have a question about this, I am picking up an 02 7.3 with a 6 spd and a manual transfer case. It has a 4" straight pipe, intake, and 100hp superchip tuner. I guess launching it in 2wd would be pointless? How fast and hard can you shift these trans? Im used to banging gears in a T-5.

As fast as you want, but the shift pattern is pretty large . The few trucks in this years Diesel Power Challenge that were using handshakers were doing 15 second 1/4 times, but they were probably souped up I think
