Fuel Economy

I have a 06' Super Duty that got 17 mpg when I bought it new. Less than a year later it had a recall and Ford had to re-set the PCM perimeters (California smog bull crap) now it gets about 9 mpg!!

I have talked to Ford a few times about it,saying that its BS to pay $45,000 for a vehicle and have it get this kind of mileage. They basically told me there is nothing they will do for me and suggested I get a chip to get better MPG.

So I am thinking about a chip or a programmer...I just don't know anything about them..I just want to get my mileage back to stock or possibly better.

Any suggestions on which ones to get would be appreciated...I dont want to spend the $$ for a chip or programmer and have it not make my mileage any better...

After researching I hear ALOT of good things about the SCT or Livewire with custom tunes. I need more MPG my truck is an 06' and I have already put 75,000 miles on it and the cost of diesel is killing me..

I have a turbo back RBP exhaust, and AirAid Intake and the new Superchips Cortex Programmer and with 40" tires, i'm getting 12 to 13 mpg. I was doing 9mpg before the performance mods, so 3-4 mpg gain in my book is pretty good.

you could look into the SCT with a custom tune, boss at work has an eco tune and gets about 70+ hp on his 07 and avg. of 19-20 on a 350 SRW. (thats with a 4 inch exh)

I have had DJ's street looney on my truck for about a month and a half or so. My fuel mileage before was around 12mpg. I average about 16 now on street looney and I don't drive as easy as I should all the time. Best $400 I ever spent.

Tuner

I'm new to the forums too, and am looking for a tuner. I have an 06 F250 PS. I've seen lots of great talk about SCT custom tunes. I want to have the ability to save fuel when towing or not towing, but will an economy tune work while towing 7k lbs? I've never had a tuner, but it sounds like once an SCT programmer is tuned, that's what you have. Wouldn't it be better to have the ability to change on demand? Is there a tuner that can be changed on demand that has the reputation of SCT that looks after tranny, exhaust temp, EGT, etc.?

Any input will be helpful.

The SCT is not adjustable "on the fly" but there is an almost unlimited amount of tunes you can get, with $$$ of course. It will only take a few minutes to change from one tune to another, then you're on your way again. (so you can go from econo to performance to tow or even back to stock if you want)

You can only keep 3 custom tunes on the SCT at any given time, but you can save bunches more on your computer.

Thank you Justiin

Each of our tunes is designed for a specific application and we offer unlimited tuning to urge you to use the right tune for the right application.

If you are towing 7,000 lbs., you are better off with a tow file (50hp). If you find that you wasting a lot of fuel we will try to economize it for you.

Thanks,
Vivian
