Wanted:: More mpg..any help outthere?
I started with a 1996 F250 SRW that did 21 highway and 18 city. I upgraded to a 1997 F350 dually and went to 14.5 no matter what. I added a drop in K&N air filter, a Western Diesel chip with a direct flow muffler, and Amsoil synthetics which resulted in 20 mpg @ 65 mph. This information may help. thx

I've got a 06 4X4 cc f350. When filling the tank I can get 32 to 33 gallons and then some spills out! It takes a day and a half to fill the sob though. Today got a tip from a guy at work. The overfill tubes and lines go into the tank quite far. He removed his tank and cut the tubes so that they only protruded into the tank about 1.5 inches. He says he can fill up in minutes now and get to the top of the neck quick. I recently purchased the Bullydog Powerpup. I have already noticed a improved mpg. On the trip to the local summit store running 80 mph each way it took 1/4 of a tank to get their and less than 1/8th of a tank back. I ran it 100% on the programmer for about 50 miles. I then turned it down to 50% and have started to keep a fuel log. My buddy has an 07 and he has his set at 60% so we can keep tabs on what gives the best results. I can tell you this it takes a lot of self control with the whoop *** sleeper truck not to whoop up on some ricers or like tonight an unsuspecting f150 ha ha ha. If any of ya have the issue of diesel power like two issues ago where the one guy managed to get 26 mpg out of his truck he did a lot of mods and the biggest one was installing 3:08 gears in it. I think it was 75 mph at 1800 rpm or so. I turn 2250 at 80 mph I sure could see where 1800 would be fuel savings to say the least. I wonder what or how much of a sacrifice he took in low end power to obtain such a high mpg rating? He of course had done a lot more than just the gears but that was the biggest single contributor to increased mpg. I do a lot of hunting and mpg is paramount to me. I alos plan on living around 45 to an hour from work which may equate up to 50 miles or so one way. even 20 mpg would be a big improvement over the 16 I was getting b4 the programmer. Titan tanks also makes a 52 gallon tank for the short bed and like a 63 or 64 gallon tank for the long beds. Combine that with the Transfer Flow aux tank and you're looking at 90 plus gallons. Course filling up would require some financial planning but I could drive a whole month without filling up. Add in propane and your mpg would increase a lot. I know I'm new but since my endeavor to increase my mpg my reading and knowledge of how to obtain more has increased substantially. I have read more than I care to admit on forums, science of diesels, and internet data. |

Switch to all synthetic fluids (oil, tranny, both diff's and transfer case). Power Service Diesel Kleen Silver Bottle (8oz with fill-up), stock tire size (high treadwear rating for hard compound), fiberglass tonneau cover, never let your tank get below 1/2 (suction head for the fuel pump), change out rear end to lower gears (closer to 3.10 or so). But you own a 7500lb diesel. It's nice to keep economy in mind (I use that term loosely with these beasts) but if it's that much of a concern there's always a Toyota Prius... |

before i had the bright idea of 6" of lift & larger tires, i was getting 20 mpg on avg. for the hwy, 17-18 around town, now I'm down to 16-17 on the hwy, which is killing me with a 150 mile round trip 3 days a week .
