What are your plans for this truck? Are you looking for maximum power, or good power and lots of functions? Our most popular combination for the 6.0l is an SCT with custom tunes (160 hp) and the Quadzilla Commander digital gauges.

Yeah they do. Thanks man.

DJ is one of the guys that sells the SCT and does custom tunes for them. He does the Looney tunes. Also, with the SCT all the tunes have tranny controls built into them. I know some of the other boxes dont do that and can be hard on your tranny. Also, I have about 30 different tunes I can upload into my SCT. I am not stuck with 3 or 4.

ya i was confused when i read "custom tunes" for that sct. wasn't sure what that entailed. I'm driving about 3000 to 4000 miles a week. 1500 to 2000 miles with a trailer behind me weighing anywhere from 6000 to 12000 lbs. I think the power the programmers give you would be nice but I would really like to keep an eye on the engine functions. Especially pulling the rockies with weight behind the truck, you know what i mean?!

You can get one tune from this person, one tune from another. Some tuners are better at certian things. That is where you just talk to people about what they have. You can call one up, and tell them exactly what you plan on doing, and then they can set you up. There is even an exhaust break tune for the SCT.

exhaust brake would be nice coming down a 7 mile mountain with a load. i kinda understand what you're saying about the custom tunes, logan. 160 hp is more than enuf and the quadzilla commander digital gauges gives you all the gauges you need including egt, tranny temp, ect?

Like Pat was saying the quad commander and SCT is a very common choice and for good reason. I think its the best tuner hands down for power and safety. The commander is great too, easy to use, measures EGT, boost, Tranny temp, water temp to name a few. You don't want to run a max power tune pulling that weight, but a good tow file would do you good. It only takes about 2 minutes to change programs with the Xcal2, so when you are unhooked its no problem to go big and kick some azz!

why don't they make all these programmers on-the-fly adjustable? That's not a complaint, i just don't understand why they don't do it if they have the technology. is their any advantage to NOT having the on-the-fly adjustment or is it just strictly a consumer option?

they can't be adjusted on the fly because flash tuners completely reprogram your engines PCM. It can totally control your engine and transmission function. The ones that are shift on the fly, at least for our 6.0's, get their power by fooling the trucks stock computer in to thinking that certain conditions are not being met and this forces the stock PCM to over compensate for those parameters. That is of course an over simplified explanation, but hopefully good enough for now. If I'm off base here someone please correct me and help this guy out.
