Post no codes/link error

my 2000 7.3 shows no codes. Starts and runs about 20 seconds, then shuts down, with code reader displaying connection error. On attempted restart, wait to start lights flashes on, then goes out. Connection error continues to be displayed on code reader. The connection error may, or may not be present on next restart. The starter turns the engine at normal start speed, but won't start, when connection error is displayed.

I suspect electrical connection problem, but have no idea where to look for it.

The connection error and crank no start is likely due to the PCM not powering up. I would verify all of the ground connections first. PCM is powered up using a relay in the underhood power distribution center. Pull the PCM power relay and verify that the connections are not rotted or spread. If they seem ok, you will need a test lamp for the next test. When the condition is present, check fuse 30 in the fuse box under the dash. If it has power, pull PCM power relay and check for power at the relay. You should have power on two terminals and ground on one. If this is the case, the issue is between the relay and PCM.

Thank you so much for your response.

Fuse 30 is good, with power applied to it. Which is the PCR relay in the under hood power distribution center. Those relays are identified by number only. There are two additional relays, mounted in separate sockets, along side the distribution center.
