2010 6.4 rough idle question

Hi everybody, I recently bought a 2010 F250 with the 6.4. Every once and a while (it has done it three times now) when I start it it will run really rough and the whole truck will shake like it has a bad midfire. The previous two times it did it I caught it before I put the truck in gear and I just shut the truck off and it went away. Yesterday it did it again but I didn't notice it until I was going down the road and had very little power. Again I shut the truck off, restarted it and it ran perfectly again. This is what perplexes me, why would the issue just go away. I am going to call the local dealership today but I'm afraid they won't be able to tell me anything because it isn't still doing it. The engine light did not come on either. I am new to the diesel world so any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have access to a tuner that can read your codes? That'll be the easiest way to get an idea of what is going on.

I do not, but wouldn't the engine light have come on if it gave a code? I can take it to the dealership and have them check it though.

A code won't necessarily give you a CEL. Let us know what you end up finding out. Even if you don't tune your truck, a tuner or computer of some sort is beneficial.
