06 6.0 hard starts

We got a 6.0 that hard starts if its not plugged in even in warm weather. It will spin over an inordinate amount of time before if finally fires. When it does fire it runs rough and has no power until the engine warms up. Plug the block in and it runs a little better. The voltages on the FICM are correct. My theory is a battery not performing up to spec, but both test fine. Anyone got any ideas?

Also, after the first fire it will fire up perfect like clockwork. Its only the first fire in the morning.

No Codes? Sounds like my truck when I had 3 bad glow plugs, but I had codes for those.

No, no codes. Like I said, its just when it first fires. Turn it off and it will fire right back up.

My 03 was doing this EXACT thing, it turned out to be FICM however. Before i knew it was the FICM i replaced both batteries and fuel filter that cleared up the problem completely until the FICM sat too long without starting. I don't think replacing the batteries and fuel filer would be a bad idea.
