ESOF Stuck in 4H

Hi folks,

I put my 99 F250 in 4wd HIGH this morning and now it will not disengage.

It has the auto / manual lock hubs with ESOF on the dash.

I've checked the fuses and all are good.

I opened up the 2 relay boxes between the air box and fuse box and moved the fuses from one to the other and it still will not come out of 4H.

4X4 light on dash is on and it is in 4X4 (not an invalid light)

Anyone have any suggestions? Cant afford to bring it to the dealer.

Appreciate any guidance you can lend.

i had the same problem with my 2001 f350. checked fuses relays with nothing blown. I tapped in the actuator on the transfer case with a hammer, then with the engine off i put the truck into neutral and was able to shift into 2wd.

Thanks for the reply.

Update on this. I thought it might be the tcase motor - so I bought a new one and hooked it up (did not bolt it on) and it doesn't turn when moving the dash dial. Not sure if it should move if not bolted on (figured maybe if the motor wasnt under load it would turn easily..

When you say the actuator on the transfer case - are you referring to to the tc motor?

(And I've tried getting out of 4 with brakes on/off neutral/coasting/stopped every combination possible.) And its the transfer case motor stuck in 4wd so if I understand how the system works, nothing to do with the front end, auto locking hubs etc..
